SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Adults with mental health challenges now have more choices and options for treatment at Sutter Center for Psychiatry. This new program is designed for adults needing more intensity than traditional outpatient counseling, but less intensity than inpatient care. Sutter’s new adult outpatient programs meet that need and supplements the existing outpatient programs for children and adolescents at a time when mental health services in the community are shrinking.
Sutter's Partial Hospital Program (PHP) for children, adolescents and now adults is offered for six hours per day, Monday through Friday. It provides intensive, recovery-oriented, cognitive behavioral group therapy and education to help participants improve their quality of life. A psychiatrist coordinates and directs the care of every participant which includes: assessments, medical and medication evaluation, family education and support, group and individual therapy as well as a chemical dependency assessment for alcohol and drug problems and an educational assessment and on-site school program for children and adolescents.
The Intensive Outpatient Program provides a less intense version of these services to match the need of participants. This is often a step down in service for those who have progressed through the PHP.
"I’m very excited to provide these services for our community," said John Boyd, chief administrative officer. "These are somebody’s mothers, children, fathers and friends in their most vulnerable time, and they need a place to go. We are committed to our motto of putting "Patients First and Always" and helping all individuals recover from mental health problems."
Since 1958, Sutter Center for Psychiatry has been the regional leader in providing psychiatric and mental health services to adults, adolescents and children. It is the only not-for-profit psychiatric hospital in the Sacramento region that is part of an integrative health care system. Sutter Center for Psychiatry is one of three campuses of Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, which is the foundation of Sutter Health, Northern California's largest health care network.
